about
This is my debut track, where I put myself out there in to the musical vernacular. This isn't necessarily how it will appear on the album, because there's a sense of urgency that I NEED to get a song out there in case something horrible goes down tomorrow. Or the day after. I feel like that nervous energy is apt and important part of Leaving.
Last year, I was completely blindsided by sophmoric, stupid, and overpowering thoughts as someone who previously thought I was above that type of experience. This year, I learned, I still kind of think pretentiously no matter how much firsthand experience I get in my own flawed mind.Songs can easily put me in me place though: in a humbling way, and in a transcendental way as well.
I didn't write it about any specific moment or inspiration, but the vibe was loosely based on the the perfect storm of badness I(and we)'ve had to deal with over the past three years.
Thank you to Lili Filingeri for the beatiful cover art and Andrew Landschoot for Mastering the track.
I also wanna give a special <3 to the people who've been there for me, my parents, my brothers, old friends, people I've met last year, and my friends in high places. You all know who you are.
XOXO,
Shovel Yourself Out of the Shit,
Micky "Michael Bernard Fitzpatrick The Fourth" Fitz.
lyrics
I don't know the consequences
But I see canaries and finches
I feel em breathing and twitching
I know that this itch has no end
I can see from your point of vision
And I can see what I was missing
But I know it was your mission
To rob me of any right intution
So I don't look up to anyone
It's all stuff I could've done
There are things I should've donen
You all know that one
Some spoiled kid with a prepaid plan
And an expired genius grant
Can't even write a check to his name
Think he's gonna hop the fence just to escape the shame
There's no need to deny it
You were a bad place for me to hide
The sick feeling just got worse and worse
Cause you all try to go somewhere else first
Leaving me with all my thoughts
Reason and I fought for long, they'd say
Hey, hey, you know you're still in second pace
I don't look up to anyone, it's all stuff I could've done
There are things I should've done, you all know that much, I'm fine
I'm leaving.
